POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick is recruiting a full-time Pediatrician. The successful applicant will perform duties with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorder within the scope of his or her specialty. He or she will practice with independent judgment, deliver services to in and outpatients, and act as consultant to other physicians. He or she will be responsible for pediatric care to the population in Zone 6. The candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of students and residents in medicine.

The Chaleur Regional Hospital is under major renovations. The five-storey building with a total area of approximately 11,507 square meters will add new patient and birth rooms, as well as dialysis, outpatient, oncology, pediatric and administrative services. A new intensive care unit officially opened in January 2014. The unit, which covers 1,431 square metres (15,900 square feet), can accommodate 10 intensive care patients as well as five step-down patients. It represents an investment of $13.4 million. The facilities are ultramodern, with more spacious patient rooms and dedicated observation stations. “This unit is an important addition to the delivery of critical care for patients in the region.
Overview of the regional health authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones, covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans' centres. HOURS OF WORK
• According to the agreement determined by the Service/Department Head
• After-hours and weekend calls are shared among all members of the Department.
JOB DUTIES
This is professional medical work performed by certified specialists (those with a specialty certification as recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB). Duties are performed with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorders within the scope of the specialty in which they are practicing. Work is performed with independent judgment but findings and observations may be subject to supervision and assessment by the physician’s Clinical (Program) Department Head / Chief of Service / Program Director in which the physicians works. Review of work may also be supervised by the local and regional Chiefs of Staff and the zone’s Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works within the accordance of the RHA Bylaws.
REMUNERATION:
Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate from an approved school of medicine supplemented by post-graduate study in the area of specialization (Pediatric)
• The candidate must have his certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (FRCPC)
• The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. https://www.cpsnb.org/
