The Family Medicine Department of Bathurst in Zone 6 (Acadie-Bathurst) of Vitalité Health Network is seeking to recruit full-time family physicians. The successful candidates will open an office in the community, provide primary and hospital care as well as emergency department services in Bathurst. Therefore, they will provide services to inpatients and take part in the Hospitalist Program as deemed necessary by the Chief of Family Medicine. These positions are mainly focused on community-based primary medical and preventive health care and may include palliative and geriatric care as well as obstetric and oncology clinics. The candidates will be expected to participate in teaching medical students and residents.

Overview of The Chaleur Regional Hospital – The Chaleur Regional Hospital provides a wide range of primary services, secondary specialized and regional including most of all the major surgical services, with the With 215 beds, 90 family physicians and 62 specialists, it serves a population of 75,000 The Chaleur Regional Hospital is an authorize partner of the francophone program of Family Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke and of the program of Nursing at the University of Moncton and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.

The Chaleur Regional Hospital is under major renovations. The five-storey building with a total area of approximately 11,507 square meters will add new patient and birth rooms, as well as dialysis, outpatient, oncology, pediatric and administrative services. A new intensive care unit officially opened in January 2014. The unit, which covers 1,431 square metres (15,900 square feet), can accommodate 10 intensive care patients as well as five step-down patients. It represents an investment of $13.4 million. The facilities are ultramodern, with more spacious patient rooms and dedicated observation stations. “This unit is an important addition to the delivery of critical care for patients in the region.

Overview of the Regional Health Authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two Regional Health Authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones, covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official languages chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans' centres. The Network is also active in the training and research, which helps to keep the staff’s skills up to date and plan for succession. JOB DUTIES:

This position involves clinical work in the provision of general medical care of patients. The work involves responsibility for performing medical care in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and may require close cooperation with various health care professionals. Work is performed with opportunity for independent judgment and action, and is reviewed by the physician’s Clinical Department Head / Chief of Service / Program Director in which the physician works. Review of the work may also be supervised by the Local and Regional Chiefs of Staff and the zone’s Medical Director of the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works in accordance of the RHA Bylaws.

REMUNERATION:

Standard remuneration is fee-for-service billing, which is a form of direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. However, remuneration for hospital and emergency services

is based on a sessional model with a fixed hourly rate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma of a recognized Medical School and graduate studies in the field of family medicine

• Must have the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certification or its equivalent
